Shane van Gisbergen solidified his status as a top contender in the NASCAR Cup Series by clinching his third victory of the 2025 season at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 held at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday.
Starting from the pole position, van Gisbergen led an impressive 97 of the 110 laps, demonstrating a mastery of the road course that has become his hallmark. "It’s been an incredible experience racing at these tracks," said van Gisbergen. "The car was just on point all day, and my team set me up for success."
This latest victory not only adds to van Gisbergen’s accolades but also places him in elite company amongst drivers like Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell, each with three wins this season.
Chase Briscoe finished in second place, marking a strong performance as he sought to keep pace with van Gisbergen. "I felt like we had a good car, but Shane was just in a league of his own today," said Briscoe post-race. "It’s frustrating, but I’m happy with second."
Chase Elliott, among the most recognizable names in NASCAR, claimed third place, while Michael McDowell and Christopher Bell rounded out the top five. Elliott acknowledged the tough competition, stating, "Every time you race against guys like Shane, it’s a challenge. You have to bring your best every week."
As van Gisbergen continues to demonstrate his dominance in road course racing, he now sits as the third seed in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, with just six regular-season races remaining. The stakes are high as drivers aim to secure their playoff spots.
Looking ahead, the NASCAR Cup Series will travel to Dover Motor Speedway for the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 on Sunday, July 20. The race is set to start at 2 p.m. ET, with coverage available on TNT, as well as the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
