One Point, One Storm: Lawrence and Roczen Roll Into Philadelphia With the 450 Title on the Line

26 Apr 2026 4 min readBy Motorsport News

Hunter Lawrence carries a single-point 450SX lead into a likely rain-soaked Philadelphia round 15, with Ken Roczen primed to pounce and 250 East leader Cole Davies one strong night from clinching his first Supercross title.

Key Takeaways

  • 1.The points leader sits 21 points clear of Seth Hammaker, and home-state Pennsylvania boy Hammaker needs to finish first or second to keep the championship alive into the final round.
  • 2.I do believe that." In the 250 East class, Cole Davies has the chance to clinch his first Supercross title one round early.
  • 3.Round 15 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Series rolls into Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday with the 450 championship the closest it has been all year, the 250 East title within reach for one rider, and a 95 percent chance of rain hanging over the entire weekend.

Round 15 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Series rolls into Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday with the 450 championship the closest it has been all year, the 250 East title within reach for one rider, and a 95 percent chance of rain hanging over the entire weekend.

The championship picture changed dramatically last weekend in Cleveland. Hunter Lawrence, the points leader since Glendale, won the opening race of the Triple Crown but then struggled once the heavens opened, finishing the night with a 1-5-14 score for sixth overall. Ken Roczen, by contrast, treated the rain-soaked third race like a dry track to take the overall and pull within a single point of the red plate. The same Lawrence who has answered every challenge to his title lead this season — opening the gap back up every time a rival has closed — now faces his sharpest examination yet.

It is also no longer a two-rider fight. Cooper Webb, Justin Cooper, Chase Sexton and Justin Hill are all close enough to disrupt the championship picture if Lawrence stumbles or Roczen has a difficult night, and the Philadelphia track map suggests the racing will reward strong restarts and patient execution. Race analyst Jason Thomas previewed the venue with the weather as the dominant variable.

"Round 15 of the Monster Energy Supercross Series heads back to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in what could be the second round in a row with inclement weather in the forecast," Thomas said. "And we saw how much of a role that played a week ago in Cleveland. So, maybe more of that. The last I checked, there was a 95 percent chance of precipitation on Saturday. But we do know that it really does matter when and how much rain we get."

Thomas warned that the rhythm sections that look exciting on paper may be entirely off the table by main-event time. "There are some big rhythm sections on this Philadelphia track map, but all of that goes out the window if it starts raining and you'll see riders revert to doubling most of the sections," he said. "The biggest rhythm section of the racetrack comes right after the start. You have a left-hand 180, but again, if it's wet, they can't do any of the cool stuff that we love to see. So that is where the line of delineation will be. Can they pull off the big stuff?"

The layout's saving grace, Thomas suggested, is its abundance of 180-degree corners. "All of those 180s help the passing. So if you don't get a great start, we're going to have a normal format, so a longer main event. If one of the championship protagonists gets a bad start, there will be lots of opportunities to pass. I do believe that."

In the 250 East class, Cole Davies has the chance to clinch his first Supercross title one round early. The points leader sits 21 points clear of Seth Hammaker, and home-state Pennsylvania boy Hammaker needs to finish first or second to keep the championship alive into the final round. Nate Thrasher, fresh off a Cleveland win, and breakout newcomer Landon Gordon — second in only his second-ever Supercross start last weekend — round out a 250 class that has caught fire just as the season approaches its conclusion.

The injury report remains heavy. Jason Anderson is still out with ongoing medical issues, Benny Bloss with a broken wrist, Justin Bogle with a concussion sustained in St. Louis, and Austin Forkner with a broken hand. RJ Hampshire is targeting the Pro Motocross opener after foot surgery. Aaron Plessinger remains out with a torn hip ligament, and his Star Yamaha teammate Eli Tomac will not line up in Philadelphia after a qualifying crash in Cleveland aggravated his hip — the multi-time champion is being assessed day by day. The brighter news is that Jett Lawrence is back on the bike following his ankle and foot break, and Colt Nichols has cleared his neck issue and plans to race.

With one point separating the 450 title contenders, a 250 East championship potentially being decided, and a forecast that could turn the night into another mud-and-survival classic, Philadelphia has the look of one of the most pivotal Saturdays of the entire 2026 season.
