As anticipation for the 2023 FIA World Rallycross Championship builds, Niclas Grönholm has solidified his future in the series by signing a multi-year extension with CE Dealer Team. The Finnish racer, who is 26 years old, achieved a remarkable third place in the 2022 season, marking his best career result to date. Grönholm showcased his talents in the all-electric PWR RX1e, notably clinching a victory at round six in Montalegre, Portugal.
Reflecting on the past season, Grönholm expressed his eagerness for improvement. "While we had a strong first season for the team, I’m never satisfied until we are at the very top – and that’s just what we have worked very hard for throughout the winter," said Grönholm. This newfound determination stems from his previous experience in competitive racing, where a battle with appendicitis in 2019 hindered his chances for a title.
Looking ahead, Grönholm acknowledges the challenges that lay ahead. "The opposition will no doubt be just as tough this season, but we continue to work in earnest to achieve our goals. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of my PWR RX1e!" he noted, fueling excitement for what he hopes will be a successful campaign.
Jussi Pinomäki, the Team Manager for CE Dealer Team, expressed a shared commitment to excellence. "We reached our initial goals for the first season by winning races, finishing in the top three overall…but we are far from satisfied," Pinomäki stated. He emphasized the team's aspirations, saying, "We will continue to push the envelope, both on and off-track…and our long-term goal of challenging for the FIA World Rallycross Championship titles has not changed."
As the 2023 championship inauguration approaches, Grönholm is set to kick off the season at Montalegre on June 3-4, a venue that holds pleasant memories for the driver. The excitement and competition of the upcoming series promise to offer Grönholm and his team ample opportunities to demonstrate their capabilities on the racetrack.
With Grönholm now locked in for the next few years, fans eagerly await his return to action. The team's confidence and his previous successes may play pivotal roles in their quest for championship glory in the world of rallycross.
