In 2022, the event found a new home in Umeå, ensuring access to the thick ice and deep snow essential for a world-class winter rally. The 2026 event features a revamped layout that includes 18 special stages, totalling approximately 300 kilometers.

"Bringing the rally to the fans' doorstep is a key part of what we want to achieve, creating that electrifying atmosphere as the cars fly by," said the rally coordinator.
One standout feature of this year’s event is the introduction of new stages, including a reimagined Bygdsiljum stage—marking the longest test at over 27 kilometers. Each stage promises a mix of speed and technical challenges, forcing drivers to adapt quickly.
"The ice grip here is something we can only find in Sweden," stated top driver Elfyn Evans. “The Hankook Winter i*Pike tires really make a difference; the tungsten-tipped studs provide phenomenal traction, allowing us to take risks by leaning into snowbanks. But it requires finesse, as hitting a soft bank can end your rally very quickly."
Reliability is paramount during the rally, with mechanics often needing to perform intricate repairs. "You can easily find yourself in a situation where repairs must be done in sub-zero temperatures of -25°C," noted a mechanic from one of the teams. "It's a true test of both the vehicles and our skills."
This year, drivers need to manage the unique sensation of their cars on ice while reaching speeds close to 200 km/h. "The feeling of floating on the snow while trying to maintain control is exhilarating," added Thierry Neuville, an experienced competitor. "It's beautiful to drive, but you always have to be vigilant."

Umeå is transformed into a winter wonderland, inviting fans from around the world to experience the thrill live.
