At the 2025 Moto2 Austrian Grand Prix, held at the picturesque Red Bull Ring, Diogo Moreira demonstrated both skill and resilience as he battled to secure his second win of the season. After a less-than-ideal start, Moreira, riding for the Italtrans Racing Team, managed to regain control of the race after initially starting in second position. "I knew I had to push hard from the beginning, and once I got ahead, I felt confident to maintain the lead," said Moreira.
The race took a dramatic twist early on as Moreira first edged in front by the end of lap two, though he faced fierce competition from Daniel Holgado. Holgado, who achieved a remarkable pole position under pressure after Manuel Gonzalez received a grid penalty, fought valiantly but ultimately could not keep pace with Moreira. "Everything was going well, but I knew Diogo was fast. I gave it my all, but the gap was too big to close in the last laps," said Holgado, who finished in second place.
Celestino Vietti also had a noteworthy race, navigating a twisty course that saw him contend with various challenges leading to the podium. Early in the race, Vietti was in contention with Gonzalez; however, a radiator issue led to his retirement later in the event. "It was a tough race, and I felt bad for my team, but we pushed through," Vietti reflected, as he claimed third place after an eventful afternoon.
As the laps unfolded, rookie David Alonso seemed poised to stake a claim for the podium until a late penalty marred his chances. "I thought I had it, but that long lap penalty ruined my race. It’s hard to take, but I’ll learn from it and come back stronger," Alonso stated after finishing in sixth.
In the final stages, the battle intensified as Vietti found himself in a position to reclaim a podium finish. His perseverance paid off when he recaptured third place after Alonso's misfortune saw him drop further down the field. "Finishing on the podium after all the ups and downs feels amazing. I’m grateful for the support from my team," said Vietti, who topped the Boscoscuro riders.
Following Vietti was Albert Arenas, crossing the line in fourth place for Italjet Gresini. As he remained consistent in his performance, Arenas maintained a steady grip throughout the race. "I’m happy with our progress and looking forward to more events this season," he noted.
Tony Arbolino had a strong showing as well, finishing fifth for Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha. His relentless drive showcased his determination to climb up the rankings. “Every race is a chance to learn and improve,” Arbolino emphasized.
The event featured a mix of seasoned veterans and young talent, with Ivan Ortola equaling his best finish in sixth place for QJMotor–Frinsa–MSI, while rookie Collin Veijer impressed by finishing eighth for Red Bull KTM Ajo. Veijer commented, "This is my best result so far, and it feels great to step up at my team’s home round."
At the same time, Izan Guevara rounded out the top ten, indicated the strength of the team despite riding unaccompanied. "I wasn’t able to push for higher, but getting points is crucial," Guevara said of his performance.
As the sun set on the Austrian circuit, the results reflected the growing competition and shifting allegiances within the championship standings. Moreira’s win and Holgado’s podium finish signify an exciting trajectory in Moto2 this season. The drivers look forward to upcoming challenges as they gear up to continue their campaigns in the remaining rounds.
With the season progressing, fans eagerly anticipate the next leg of the Moto2 Championship, promising more exhilarating races and fierce rivalries as riders jostle for position and seek that coveted top spot.
