Helio Castroneves
Racing Career

Hélio Alves de Castro Neves, born on May 10, 1975, began his professional racing career in the CART championship, where he demonstrated early promise with six wins and seven pole positions, achieving a highest championship points finish of fourth place.
Castroneves transitioned to the IndyCar Series where he truly made his mark, accumulating an impressive 23 wins and 38 pole positions throughout his career. His consistency at the highest level is reflected in his championship standings, where he finished second four times, third three times, and fourth five times - demonstrating remarkable longevity and competitiveness.
The Indianapolis 500 became Castroneves' defining stage, where he achieved legendary status by winning the race three times in 2001, 2002, and 2009. His back-to-back victories in 2001 and 2002 place him among an elite group of just five drivers in history to accomplish this feat, alongside Wilbur Shaw, Mauri Rose, Bill Vukovich, and Al Unser. He remains the only active driver to have achieved both three Indy 500 victories and consecutive wins.
Beyond his victories, Castroneves proved to be a master qualifier at Indianapolis, earning four pole positions for the Indy 500. His back-to-back poles in 2009 and 2010 marked the first time a driver had achieved consecutive front-row starts since Scott Brayton in 1996. His near-misses at Indy were equally notable, finishing second in 2003, 2014, and 2017, further cementing his status as one of the race's most consistent performers.
Currently competing in the 2024 IndyCar Championship with Meyer Shank Racing, Castroneves continues his racing career after a stint in IMSA competition, maintaining his position as one of the sport's most accomplished and recognizable figures.
