On January 5, 2026, crucial changes to the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking (WWGR) will be put into effect, as announced on Monday. The updates primarily focus on how ranking points are awarded, ensuring fairer distribution across various tournaments.
"From now on, every player who makes a cut in a WWGR tournament will receive ranking points, regardless of the strength of the field," said a spokesperson for the WWGR, highlighting the effort to provide more comprehensive recognition for players on different tours.
Previously, the accumulation of ranking points depended on the strength of the tournament's field, a measurement that often excluded players competing in less recognized events. This reform paves the way for broader inclusivity in women's golf.
In addition to this change, the ranking system will adopt a linear format for points distribution based on tournament strength. Prior methods allowed for a range of strengths to receive equivalent points, which was seen as an inconsistent approach. "Now, the number assigned to a tournament's strength will directly match a unique points distribution," emphasized the new process.
As part of this overhaul, a new tour has been welcomed into the WWGR fold: the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT). Beginning in 2026, the WAPT will contribute to the rankings, making it the 13th recognized tour in the system. This U.S.-based developmental tour will showcase 13 tournaments from April to September.
"Including the ANNIKA WAPT is an exciting step forward," remarked an official from the WWGR. "This tour provides a pathway for aspiring players to transition to higher levels of competition."
The addition of the WAPT allows talented players to secure exemptions into the Epson Tour, the LPGA's official qualifying path. The top two finishers in each tournament on the WAPT will qualify for select Epson Tour events, while outstanding performers through the season will gain access to the Qualifying Stage of the LPGA Q-Series.

Kicking off its inaugural season, the WAPT will begin with the Lake Charles Championship at L’Auberge in Louisiana on April 8, 2026. This tournament will be a pivotal start for players looking to establish their careers in professional golf.
