In a dramatic finish at the International Series Moutai Singapore Open, Thomas Pieters of 4Aces GC showcased his golfing skills, concluding the tournament in a solid tied for ninth place. His performance included a remarkable 4-under 68 in the final round, bringing his total score to 14-under for the week, just five shots behind the playoff winner, Yosuke Asaji. "I felt in control out there today, and it was rewarding to finish strong," said Pieters.
The event saw other LIV Golf talents striving for success. Talor Gooch from Smash GC managed to secure a 1-under 71 on the final day, ending up tied for 24th. Meanwhile, Crushers GC's Paul Casey found himself tied for 46th. Although Legion XIII's Caleb Surratt started the tournament with promise, recording rounds of 66 and 68 initially, his form slipped dramatically over the weekend with back-to-back 77s, leaving him tied for 65th. "It was tough out there, and I just couldn’t find my rhythm on the weekend," said Surratt, reflecting on his performance.
LIV Golf Wild Card player Anthony Kim also had a commendable week, posting rounds of 68, 69, 72, and 71, which culminated in a tie for 43rd. His consistent play highlighted his potential in the competitive landscape of the sport.
Across the globe at the DP World Tour's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, LIV Golf's Tyrrell Hatton and Patrick Reed, both representing Legion XIII and 4Aces GC respectively, had aspirations of a strong Sunday, but faced challenges. Hatton delivered a 3-over 75 to finish tied for 41st, while Reed posted a 1-over 73, ending tied for 49th. "It just wasn’t my day today; the putts didn’t drop when I needed them to," Hatton remarked after his round.
Tom McKibbin of Legion XIII closed out his week with an even-par 72, finishing as the solo 66th. Many had anticipated stronger finishes from this group, especially after Hatton's exceptional Round 3, where he carded an impressive 8-under 64, which included two eagles. "That 64 gave me the confidence, but today just didn’t click," he added, referring to his inability to maintain that momentum.
As the tournament unfolded, both Pieters and Hatton's experiences serve as reminders of the unpredictabilities of golf. Each player's determination and resilience are commendable, proving that every round presents unique challenges and opportunities.
Looking ahead, with the LIV Golf series continuing its impactful presence on the wider golfing stage, fans can expect thrilling competitions as players adapt and strive for excellence in upcoming tournaments. The passion and competitiveness exhibited by these athletes shape a promising future for the series.
With many players eager to reclaim their form after tough finishes this week, all eyes will be on the next series of events, where they will aim for redemption and further success on the greens.
