CARROLLTON, Texas – On a scorching day in Texas, two prominent figures in golf celebrated significant victories at LIV Golf Dallas presented by Aramco. Patrick Reed achieved a remarkable feat by clinching his first individual title in the LIV Golf series, marking his first professional win in his home state after a long wait.
Reed, a star with the 4Aces GC, showcased his skills in a thrilling four-man playoff. His decisive birdie putt, measured at 16.5 feet, sealed the win over notable competitors including Stinger GC Captain Louis Oosthuizen, Iron Heads GC’s Jinichiro Kozuma, and Crushers GC’s Paul Casey.
The Crushers GC, which is captained by Bryson DeChambeau, triumphed in the team competition, earning their third consecutive victory with an impressive margin of 11 shots. This latest win contributes to their status as one of the most formidable teams in the league, marking their eighth regular-season title.
"Dallas showed up, and this is what I expected. This is what I thought was possible," said DeChambeau, who shot a final round of 68, tying for ninth individually at 4 under par. He expressed gratitude toward the local support, noting, "I’ve just got to say I’m super thankful to Dallas and super thankful for the team for playing as well as they did."
For Reed, this victory was particularly meaningful, coming in his 41st regular-season LIV Golf start. Despite numerous team successes, he had long sought an individual win. "I don’t like hearing those numbers, that it took me 41 times just to win out here," Reed admitted. "It took too long, I felt like, but to check two things off and win for the first time on LIV and also doing it in my home state means a lot."
The final round at Maridoe Golf Club was anything but straightforward for Reed. He began with a strong lead but quickly faced challenges. His advantage shrank after double-bogeys by playing partners Casey and Abraham Ancer on hole one, pushing Reed's lead to five shots. However, Reed's performance faltered, and he recorded five bogeys across a seven-hole stretch, losing his lead to Tyrrell Hatton of Legion XIII.
Despite the setbacks, Reed managed to regain his composure on the back nine, carding nine consecutive pars, ultimately finishing the day with a 3-over 75 and a total score of 6 under. A critical moment came on the par-4 12th hole, where Reed's ability to recover from a tricky situation bolstered his confidence.
"That gave me the confidence going forward that hey, the game is where it needs to be," Reed reflected. "You just need to right the ship. You got all the bad stuff out of the way, so now let’s go try to win this golf tournament."
Reed finished tied with Casey (who recovered from an early double-bogey to finish at 72), Oosthuizen (who closed with back-to-back birdies for a 68), and Kozuma (who found success with four birdies on his final nine). The ensuing playoff, which tied for the largest in LIV Golf history, was fleeting and intense.
As the playoff began, the other three competitors faced immediate difficulties: Oosthuizen hit his tee shot into the water, while Casey ended up in the greenside bunker, and Kozuma struggled to reach the green. Reed found himself with the only birdie opportunity, thanks to an excellent approach from the fairway rough.
Reflecting on his win, Reed noted the special connection to his family, saying, "I looked down at my putter – it’s actually my daughter’s putter, and it says Windsor-Wells."
As Reed celebrates this monumental victory, the Crushers GC continues to solidify its dominance on the LIV Golf scene, with fans eager to see how both the individual and team tournament dynamics will unfold in the coming events. The Dallas tournament not only showcased thrilling golf but also highlighted the growing enthusiasm among fans, with attendance exceeding 50,000 across the three-day event.
With both Reed and the Crushers GC winning in Dallas, the future promises even more heightened competition as LIV Golf heads into its next chapter.
