Mumbai Suburbs and Mumbai City have stormed into the finals of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup State-Level Kabaddi Tournament after winning their respective semi-finals on Tuesday at Sevanand Vidyalaya in Koradi, with both Mumbai sides now eyeing a clean sweep of the showpiece titles.
In the women's semi-final, Mumbai Suburbs edged Pune District 14-13, 24-22 in a tense two-leg contest that ebbed and flowed until the final raid. The first half was decided by a single point, and Pune kept the second half close into the closing minutes before Mumbai Suburbs secured a two-point cushion to advance.
Mansi Rode produced a series of clutch raids for Pune, repeatedly forcing the Mumbai Suburbs cover to commit and earning bonus points to keep her side in contention. For Mumbai Suburbs, Yashika Pujari was the standout performer, anchoring the defence with timely tackles before contributing on the raid in the closing minutes.
The men's semi-final was a more comfortable evening for Mumbai City, who beat Ahilyanagar 16-12, 30-26. Mumbai City controlled territory throughout the second leg and used their bench depth to wear down the Ahilyanagar defence, with Sushant Sahil and Omkar Rane combining for the bulk of their points. Saurabh Raut and Ajit Pawar pushed Ahilyanagar back into the contest with sustained pressure in the final minutes, but the deficit from the first leg proved too steep.
Both Mumbai sides will now contest the finals, where the women's bracket pits Mumbai Suburbs against the surviving district side and the men face the second finalist. Tournament organisers expect a packed venue at Sevanand Vidyalaya for the title matches.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup is jointly organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Nagpur Division, the Amateur Kabaddi Association of Vidarbha and the Nagpur Rural Kabaddi Association. The event has steadily grown into one of Maharashtra's most competitive state-level kabaddi platforms, drawing district squads from Mumbai, Pune, Ahilyanagar and beyond, and serving as a feeder route into national-level selection camps.
For Mumbai Suburbs, victory in the women's final would cap an unbeaten run through the tournament. For Mumbai City, the men's final represents a chance to reaffirm Mumbai's dominance in the senior men's bracket, where its players have historically dominated the Maharashtra circuit.
The two finals are expected to deliver further showcases for Maharashtra's emerging talent, with state selectors and Pro Kabaddi League scouts known to track the late-season tournaments closely. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup has previously produced players who have gone on to PKL contracts, and the 2026 edition is expected to add to that pipeline.
