Robert Moran and Hugh Foley have successfully made their way to the final round of the Alps Dreamland Open at the Dreamland Golf Club in Cairo. Moran, having finished in the top two in three of his four Alps Tour outings this season, knows he must deliver an outstanding performance to maintain that trend.
Starting with a two-under par round of 70, Moran found himself in a nine-way tie for 14th position after the first round. He began the second round on a high note, securing a birdie on the par-4 first hole, followed by an eagle on the par-5 second. However, his progress was hampered by bogeys on the fourth and sixth holes, bringing him back to level par through the turn.
Things shifted once again for Moran, as he fought back on the back nine, finishing with two birdies on the 13th and 16th holes. Despite his efforts, he fell two positions in the rankings to share 16th place, trailing leader Maxime Legros from France by nine strokes. Legros holds a four-stroke lead over compatriot Alexis Leray.
Moran’s current standing is crucial as he sits second in the Alps Tour Order of Merit. Every shot counted this week, as he seeks one of the coveted five HotelPlanner Tour cards at season's end.
Hugh Foley matched Moran's opening score with a one-under 71, featuring three birdies and two bogeys. His score was sufficient for him to advance to the final round, with the cut being set at two under par.
Notably, Sam Murphy, who had previously clinched victory in his first professional tournament, and Cathal Mac Canna, both missed the cut. They will remain in Cairo, preparing for the upcoming Allegria Open that begins on Friday.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Moran and Foley as they vie for improved standings and a potential tour card, while others strategize for the next competition ahead.
