The Spaniard, who has quickly become a familiar name on the LIV Golf circuit, matched Sebastian Munoz's impressive score of 22-under par after shooting an 11-under 60 on Sunday.
However, the celebration was bittersweet for Rahm, as he lost to Munoz in a playoff. "[It feels] slightly bittersweet. Like I know I'm supposed to be happy. It's a great moment. But it just doesn't feel great to finish the year losing two play-offs," said Rahm, explaining the mixed emotions surrounding his achievement.
Munoz, who clinched his first title since joining LIV Golf, held his composure on the playoff hole, converting a ten-foot birdie putt. This moment codified a dynamic finish for the Colombian, while Rahm could only muster a par. Rahm acknowledged Munoz's deserving win, saying, "One could argue he was probably the more deserving guy to win this."
Despite not securing a tournament victory this season, Rahm's consistent performances allowed him to edge out Chilean golfer Joaquin Niemann for the individual title and its accompanying $18 million prize. Niemann, who has emerged victorious five times since February, expressed his frustration at missing out on the title by just three points, stating, "It's kind of hard to swallow."
Rahm recognized the peculiar nature of accumulating enough points without winning a single tournament. He noted, "Have a great Sunday today and then hit the pin and unfortunate moment on the playoff hole. That part doesn't feel great, so I'm sure over time I'll get over that, and I really appreciate what I've done this year."
As Rahm looks to the future, particularly towards the season-ending team finals set to take place in Michigan, he sees his LegionXIII team as a strong contender. "We’re favorites to win, followed by Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers," Rahm stated confidently, indicating that his focus is now on team dynamics and championship aspirations.
Beyond the immediate team finals, Jon Rahm is also hopeful for a spot in the 2025 European Ryder Cup team. Although he cannot qualify automatically, he is optimistic about receiving a captain's pick from Luke Donald. Reflecting on his past performances, he articulated, "The golfer was instrumental in Europe's win in Italy two years ago and it seems unfathomable that he won't be involved."
Additionally, Rahm's teammate, Tyrrell Hatton, is also in a similar position and fans are eager to see how both players will fare as Ryder Cup considerations loom.
