Bryson DeChambeau announced on Sunday morning that he has withdrawn from the LIV Golf Mexico City tournament, which is taking place at the Club de Golf Chapultepec. The golfer attributed his decision to discomfort in his wrist, which he experienced during the previous round. After three rounds, DeChambeau was positioned at 2 over par and significantly behind the leader, Jon Rahm, who was at 21 under par.
"I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday's round and have decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury," DeChambeau wrote in a statement shared on social media. He expressed his disappointment about not being able to continue, adding, "Now how I wanted this week to go, but wishing the Crushers a strong finish. I'm going to take a few days to get evaluated and hope to be ready for LIV Golf Virginia."
DeChambeau's withdrawal follows a week where he publicly criticized the course conditions, which included a notable incident where he expressed frustration over the rough. His remarks garnered attention on social media as he quipped, "You got destroyed grass… oh this is rough."
The next event on LIV Golf's calendar is scheduled for May 7-10 at Trump National DC in Sterling, Virginia. This tournament marks the league's first American event of 2026, coinciding with preparations for the upcoming PGA Championship, set for the following week.
Although DeChambeau entered the LIV Golf Mexico City with confidence from two consecutive tournament victories, he faced challenges during the Masters a few weeks prior. He notably struggled with concluding rounds, which included a couple of triple bogeys related to difficulties with greenside bunkers.
As he looks to recover, DeChambeau will need to refocus his efforts on his game before heading to Aronimink Golf Club for the PGA Championship, where he has historically performed well.
In recent appearances at the PGA Championship, DeChambeau stands out with four top-five finishes in the last five events, including two runner-up positions against notable competitors like Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler.
As he aims to return to peak form, golf fans will be watching closely for updates on DeChambeau's health leading up to the LIV Golf Virginia tournament and the PGA Championship. His performance in these upcoming events could have a significant impact on his standing within the league as well as his overall confidence in the season ahead.
